Here are real world before and after videos of dogs treated at the Colorado Center for Animal Pain Management that had debilitating pain that were jumping and running after they received treatment with this approach.

About the treatment

TECHNICAL INFO

Clinical-stage biotechnology company, Vetana Animal Health, is developing an investigational non-viral gene therapy platform to treat pathologic inflammation through immune modulation. The company is harnessing the power of interleukin-10 (IL-10), a potent cytokine that acts as a master regulator for multiple inflammatory pathways, to address the root cause of inflammation and subsequently restore homeostasis in the immune system.

The investigational treatment, XT-550, is a locally injectable plasmid DNA gene therapy expressing IL-10 to address pathologic inflammation and pain.

The clinical study will investigate the efficacy, tolerability and safety of intra-articular (IA) injection of XT-550, plasmid DNA encoding canine IL-10 variant transgene, in dogs with OA.

The expected duration of action is ~6 months. After injection, the dogs will be evaluated monthly at the Vet School until 6 months following injection.

WHAT THIS MEANS

We want to find ways to help your dog live pain free. We believe that this investigational therapy could help reduce the pain that many dogs experience when they get older or have an injury so they can play and live a normal life.

About the study

TECHNICAL INFO

In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study, XT-550 or placebo will be administered intra-articularly to dogs with a moderate to severe limb lameness caused by either one or two joint(s) OA pain (elbow, shoulder, stifle, carpus, or hock).

WHAT THIS MEANS

We are enrolling dogs to study the impact and duration of our treatment. We will control the test so we ensure that we can get meaningful results without any bias from the people doing the study.

PARTICIPATION

Recruited participants will come to one of three College of Veterinary Medicine locations (North Carolina State University - CVM, University of Missouri - CVM, or University of Minnesota - CVM) for evaluation and treatment. Total participation lasts about 6 months with 9 study visits.  In addition to specialist examination and X-rays, we will measure how your dog moves and uses its limbs using state of the art movement analysis equipment and activity monitors

ENROLLMENT CRITERIA

In order to participate in this study your dog must:

  • Be greater than 1 year old and weigh between 33-99 lbs

  • Have an obvious, observable limp in 1 - 4 limbs caused by osteoarthritis (determined at screening)

  • Be relatively healthy

  • You need to be available and able to evaluate your dog for continuous 6-month period

STUDY BENEFITS – FULLY FUNDED CLINICAL TRIAL

  • Potentially decreased pain

  • No cost examination, blood and urine testing

  • No cost x-rays
